ActivityDoctor FAQ

Answers about privacy, FIT compatibility, repair behavior and how ActivityDoctor handles your activity files.

Does ActivityDoctor upload my FIT file?

No. Viewer, validator, repair, editor and conversion features process the selected FIT file locally in your browser. The file is only uploaded if you explicitly choose to share a damaged sample on the Bug Report page and confirm the separate consent checkbox.

Does a repair overwrite my original file?

No. ActivityDoctor always generates a new download. Keep the original file as your untouched source.

What is the difference between Safe Repair and Smart Repair?

Safe Repair fixes structural checksum/header issues without modifying workout samples. Smart Repair can interpolate conservative, deterministic anomalies in timestamps or sensor/GPS streams when the source fields are writable.

Can ActivityDoctor recover a truncated FIT file?

Sometimes. Salvage keeps complete messages before a damaged tail. Compatibility Rebuild can create a new standardized activity from recovered Record messages. Data that was never written to the original file cannot be recreated with certainty.

Which devices are supported?

ActivityDoctor is format-based rather than device-certified. It targets standards-compliant FIT Activity files. See the supported devices page for the current compatibility policy.

Why is there no street map behind my GPS route?

The route preview deliberately uses a local vector plot instead of sending your GPS coordinates to a third-party map tile service.

Can I report a file that still fails in Garmin Connect or Strava?

Yes. Use Report a bug. You can send diagnostic details without the FIT file, or optionally share a damaged sample only after explicit consent.
